Luke Freeman grabbed a brace as Arsenal Under-18s got their season off to a winning start at home to Everton on Saturday morning.
The former Gillingham youngster slipped home a Thomas Cruise cross early in the early first-half before confusion in the box led to an own goal, doubling the Gunners’ advantage on 20 minutes.
James Shea enjoyed a fine morning in his first match as undisputed No 1 at this level, while Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was typically resolute in centre-midfield alongside Emmanuel Frimpong.
After the break Steve Bould’s young charges continued to lay siege on the Everton goal and got their just rewards when Freeman raced onto a through ball to complete his excellent start to the campaign.
A late goal for the Toffees merely took the shine of a good all-round day for Arsenal.
