Kelly Smith scored both goals as Arsenal Ladies secured a highly-creditable 2-2 draw at Brondby in the Uefa Women's Cup Semi-Final first leg on Saturday. But the England striker is set to miss the return game after she was sent off for a second booking with 12 minutes left.
Smith gave Arsenal the lead in the ninth minute. Julie Fleeting was fouled just outside the penalty area on the right flank and the 28-year-old dispatched the free-kick in style.
The lead was short-lived as Maiken Pape replied just eight minutes later by converting a left-wing cross from the edge of the area.
Four minutes after the break, Smith put Arsenal ahead once more but, roared forward by a crowd of 628, Lene Jensen replied just before the hour.
Both sides had chances to find the winner. Rachel Yankey fired over the bar and Smith ended a fine run by thumping an effort wide. Brondby also tested Emma Byrne but it was nothing that truly troubled the Irish international.
The only sour note came in the 78th minute from time when Smith received her second booking. She will miss the second leg at Boreham Wood FC on Saturday, November 11, kick-off 2pm.
