Jayne Ludlow and Lianne Sanderson scored a brace apiece as Arsenal
Ladies thumped Birmingham 6-0 to reach the Semi-Finals of the FA
Women's Cup.
The Gunners took a giant step towards the next round as early as
the sixth minute when Ludlow picked up a loose ball on the edge of
the box before rounding two players and finding the bottom corner
with a left-foot strike.
Karen Carney added the second four minutes later when she was
quickest to react to a Rachel Yankey free-kick that was fumbled by
the Birmingham keeper. Wales captain Ludlow then grabbed her second
10 minutes before half time with a carbon copy of her first.
The second half continued in much the same vein as the first.
Katie Chapman added a fourth when she popped up in the box unmarked
to head home after some intricate build-up play from Sanderson and
Kelly Smith.
Sanderson was then rewarded for her performance with two strikes
of her own. The first came on 71 minutes when the striker drove in
from the edge of the box following a superb passage of possession
from the hosts. She completed the scoring with her second just 11
minutes later when Smith showed great determination down the right
before producing a pinpoint lay off for the 19-year-old to guide in
a first-time shot.
