Gavin Hoyte, Henri Lansbury and Rhys Murphy returned to domestic
action following spells with England Under-17s this weekend as
Arsenal Under-18s thrashed Watford 7-1.
The youngsters flew out of the blocks and were 2-0 ahead inside
10 minutes. Goals from Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and then Rhys Murphy set
the tone for what was a dominant performance. Sanchez Watt followed
his debut goal for the Reserves with another one here on 24 minutes
before the emerging talent of Jack Wilshere made it 4-0 five
minutes before the interval.
Watford pulled one back by the break but even with a three goal
cushion Arsenal's stranglehold on the game never relented. On
49 minutes Wilshere grabbed the Gunners' fifth and his second
before completing his hat-trick six minutes later.
On the hour mark and with the game safe, Steve Bould made a
triple substitution, introducing Thomas Cruise and handing first
appearances of the season to Conor Henderson and Ahmed Abdulla.
The rout was completed with three minutes remaining when Cedric
Evina grabbed his first of the campaign to complete a memorable day
for the young Gunners.
Next for Arsenal is the visit of Leicester, when they will be
hoping to add to their three wins so far this season.
