Ray Swallow

Ray Swallow was born in Southwark and joined Arsenal as a trainee in March 1952.

The inside forward was part of the Club's ground staff before turning professional in December of that year.

Swallow was only used as a bit-part player during his Highbury career and made 13 starts, scoring four goals. His time at the Club was interrupted by his National Service in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps.

He did, however, have another string to his bow - cricket. Swallow made his first-class debut for Middlesex in a one-off match against Scotland in 1957.

He left the Club in September 1958 to join Derby County, before later featuring for Poole Town. During his spell at the Baseball Ground, opening batsman Swallow also represented Derbyshire and played 38 first-class games overall.
