Leslie Jones

Leslie Jones helped Arsenal win the First Division title in his first season.

The inside forward - a Wales international - joined from Coventry City in exchange for Bobby Davidson in November 1937.

He made the first of his 51 starts in a 2-1 defeat to Grimsby Town two days later and played 28 times that season as Arsenal won the league.

Jones won four caps for Wales during his spell at Highbury but saw his Arsenal career hampered by the outbreak of the Second World War, where he served in the RAF.

The attacker made 68 appearances during wartime but did not play in Arsenal's first full season after the war, making his final appearance in the FA Cup against West Ham in January 1946.

Jones was given a free transfer in May of that year at the age of almost 35 and joined Swansea Town as a player-coach.
