Dan Lewis was a regular between the posts under Herbert Chapman.
The goalkeeper joined Arsenal in summer 1924 from Clapton Orient and made his debut in a 3-2 victory over Everton in November that year.
Lewis, who worked in the coal mines before taking up football, played 167 matches for the Club over a seven-year period but was forced to fight for his place throughout.
Upon Chapman's arrival in 1925 he battled with Jock Robson and Bill Harper for the No 1 shirt, which he eventually made his own after the duo departed in 1926 and 1931 respectively.
Lewis played in the 1927 FA Cup final against Cardiff but it was his error that gifted Hughie Ferguson the winner in Arsenal's 1-0 defeat.
The goalkeeper remained first choice for the next three seasons, playing 95 times before the arrivals of Gerrard Keizer and, for a second spell, Harper. He also won three caps for Wales.
Lewis did not play in Arsenal's 1930 FA Cup success against Huddersfield after picking up an injury in a 6-6 draw with Leicester City.
He did not appear in his final season at the Club as Arsenal won their first Division One title. He transferred to Gillingham in May 1931.
