Alex Graham

Alex Graham enjoyed a 13-year career at Arsenal, playing 179 times.

The half back joined on trial in December 1911 and turned professional one month later before making his senior debut in a friendly against West Ham in March 1912.

The young defender did not make an impact in the first team at first, however, deputising for the more experienced squad members.

Woolwich Arsenal were in the Second Division when the First World War began, with no league football being played until 1919.

Graham barely appeared for Arsenal during wartime, working instead in the mines and playing in Scotland.

But Graham returned in the 1920/21 campaign and was a regular in Leslie Knighton's first-team squad for four seasons until his departure to Brentford for £450 in December 1924.
