A late Stina Blackstenius brace saw us come from 1-0 down to win 2-1 away to Manchester City in the Barclays Women's Super League on Sunday.
Lauren Hemp gave City the lead in the first half, but second-half substitute Blackstenius scored in the 89th and 92nd minutes to turn the game around.
What happened
City ought to have found the opener in the sixth minute when Leila Ouahabi scuffed the ball wide from Hemp's cross, and they came close again as Laia Aleixandri got on the end of a Chloe Kelly free-kick only to see her shot blocked.
Victoria Pelova found Frida Maanum and her strike was beaten away by Khiara Keating at the other end, but it was City who made the breakthrough in the 17th minute.
Picking out the bottom right corner with power and precision, Hemp gave the home side the lead with her tenth WSL goal of the season.
Alex Greenwood headed over the bar from a Mary Fowler corner moments later, and Jess Park pulled the ball back for Kelly, who didn't quite connect with it towards the end of the first half.
Clear chances were few and far between for us and we went into the half-time break one goal behind. Jonas Eidevall made one change during the interval, replacing Maanum with Kim Little.
Beth Mead's cross fell kindly for Laia Codina at the start of the second half though, but she cushioned the ball just wide of the post.
Manuela Zinsberger was quickly called into action at the other end, stretching out her left foot to deny Fowler from close range, before Mead's cross was spilled into a dangerous area by Kheating but no-one was in the right position to capitalise.
We made a triple change in the 63rd minute, Blackstenius, Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord coming on for Cloe Lacasse, Emily Fox and Kyra Cooney-Cross.
Mead had a chance to equalise when Keating gave the ball away to her but the shot was too central to trouble the City goalkeeper. We came closer when our substitutes combined, Blackstenius playing the ball through to Foord who put it wide.
Our fifth and final change came in the 82nd minute, Laura Wienroither being brought on for Katie McCabe.
In the 89th minute, Mead's corner created chaos in the City penalty area as the ball bounced around before dropping for Blackstenius to hook it past Keating to equalise.
Then, just three minutes later, bedlam on the Arsenal bench as a brilliantly whipped cross from Little was headed back across goal and into the bottom left corner by Blackstenius to complete the dramatic turnaround.
We held onto the lead in nine minutes of added time to end City’s 14-match winning streak.
What it means
We climb to second in the WSL with 47 points, one position ahead of Chelsea, who have two games in hand.
