Jill Roord hit a hat-trick for the second consecutive week on Saturday as we ran riot in a 9-1 win over West Ham.
Vivianne Miedema, Kim Little, Beth Mead, Leah Williamson and Caitlin Foord also found the back of the net, meaning we’ve scored 15 goals in our opening two league fixtures.
It was a frantic start to the game with both sides threatening on the counter, but with a a moment of class from Miedema to set Katie McCabe free down the left, Roord latched on to a cutback to fire us into an early lead.
Kenza Dali equalised shortly after with a drilled finish into the bottom corner, only for Miedema to restore our lead less than 10 minutes later, converting Mead’s delivery from close range.
Things went from bad to worse for the Hammers, though, as Gilly Flaherty received a second her yellow card for dissent, before Little furthered our advantage with a composed finish inside the area.
Mead made it four on the stroke of half-time with a stunning strike from distance that sailed into the top corner - and we didn’t hold back in the second half either, scoring three goals in just four minutes.
Roord doubled her tally with a tap-in from close range, before Miedema raced behind the Hammers’ defence and fired into the top corner.
Roord then went on to seal her hat-trick by finishing into the bottom left corner, meaning she’s already surpassed her five-goal tally from 2019/20.
Williamson made it eight with a looping finish into the top corner, before Foord opened her WSL account, applying the finishing touch to Lisa Evans’ selfless squared pass.
An incredible performance - and a real statement of intent.
