Vivianne Miedema delivered an attacking masterclass on Wednesday night, scoring four goals in our 5-2 first-leg victory over Slavia Prague in the Champions League last-16.
The Netherlands international has now scored eight goals across all competitions this season, taking her tally up to 48 since joining the club in May 2017.
We suffered our first defeat of the season last Sunday, and that seemed to be all the motivation we needed in Prague as we delivered a faultless attacking performance from start to finish.
With just 24 minutes on the clock, Beth Mead received the ball in transition and played a first-time pass into the feet of Miedema, who raced through on goal and fired coolly past Olivie Lukasova.
Less than two minutes later she doubled her tally when Lukasova raced off her line and missed the ball, gifting Miedema the opportunity to fire into an open goal.
Our dominance continued and Miedema sealed her hat-trick before the break. Leah Williamson played a sublime through ball into the path of Danielle van de Donk, who evaded the keeper with a roulette and teed up Miedema for a simple finish inside the area.
We picked up where we left off in the second half too, with Mead tormenting the home side down the right flank. The England international raced behind her marker and fizzed a ball across the face of goal, where Miedema was waiting to score her fourth of the evening.
Captain Kim Little then made it five from the spot after winning the penalty herself, before Katerina Svitkova and Mia Persson score late on to reduce the deficit for the return leg.
