SUMMARY
Goals from Jordan Nobbs, Jodie Taylor and Danielle Carter saw us continue our preparations for the new Women’s Super League season.
In our first game on the newly-renovated Meadow Park pitch, Nobbs broke the deadlock after just 15 minutes with a delightful volley.
Just five minutes later our lead was doubled when a composed strike from Taylor found the back of the net.
The scoring was completed nine minutes before the interval when Carter capitalised after being put through on goal by Lisa Evans.
FIRST HALF
Both teams looked dangerous from the first whistle but, after Simone Magill had a clear-cut chance well saved by Anna Moorhouse, Nobbs ensured she made no mistake at the other end.
Positioned inside the box with her back to goal, the England midfielder reacted brilliantly to send an acrobatic volley past Lizzie Durack in the Everton goal.
It did not take long before we doubled our advantage. Danielle van de Donk beat her marker and sent in a low cross to Taylor, who fired home with her first touch.
There was still time for us to grab a third before the break. Another swift counter-attack saw Evans find Carter unmarked, and the England forward gratefully finished past Durack.
SECOND HALF
Louise Quinn and Jessica Samuelsson entered the fray at half-time, replacing Leah Williamson and Alex Scott, and we continued to attack. Durack produced a good stop to deny Dominique Janssen’s strike before reacting quickly to save from Taylor.
Then it was Everton’s turn to attack, with Chantelle Boye-Holorkah forcing Moorhouse into a smart stop before substitute Taylor Hinds had to make a last-ditch challenge to halt Faye Bryson.
Durack was then called into action again, getting an important touch on Van de Donk’s dipping cross, before Gabby George had to head clear from underneath her own crossbar.
