Eddie Nketiah struck late on to give us a morale-boosting win over Bayern Munich in Los Angeles.
The 20-year-old converted from close range after great work from Tyreece John-Jules, who exchanged passes with Calum Chambers before picking out Nketiah.
We had already led once, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang forcing an own goal from Louis Poznanski. But Bayern looked to have taken the game to penalties when Robert Lewandowski headed in Serge Gnabry's cross.
We made a confident start in our new adidas away kit, and no one displayed more confidence than Aubameyang.
Auba's pace and assertiveness gave us penetration on the right, and he was unlucky not to set up a goal for Mesut Ozil after a barnstorming 60-yard dash into Bayern territory. The German side had Manuel Neuer to thank on that occasion, although he was almost embarrassed later on when Auba caught him in possession.
The other German goalkeeper was busy too, Bernd Leno denying Thomas Muller and Daniels Ontuzans in the space of a couple of minutes.
Both teams were creating chances but we had more cohesion, so we deserved our lead when it came early in the second half. Henrikh Mkhitaryan lifted the ball over the Bayern defence, Auba fired it back across goal and a flick off Poznanski took it past Neuer.
Former Gunner Gnabry - Bayern's player of last season - twice went close to an instant response, Emi Martinez stopping one of those chances with a well-timed dive at the German's feet.
Gnabry did eventually set up Lewandowski - a regular thorn in our side down the years - but it was a much younger striker who would have the final word.
HOW IT HAPPENED
As expected, Unai Emery brought his established names back for the first of three ICC games in the US.
Aubameyang started to the right of Alex Lacazette with Mesut Ozil in behind. Joe Willock was given a chance alongside Granit Xhaka and Leno started in goal.
Our stay in LA ends on Friday when we fly to Charlotte for the second of our three ICC fixtures - against Fiorentina on Saturday.
We conclude our US tour with a game against Real Madrid in Washington DC on Tuesday.
