Arsenal in the Community

Arsenal’s Cruyff Court on Sky Sports

Arsenal in the Community hit the headlines this week when our work at Elthorne Park’s Cruyff Court was profiled on the Sky Sports News website and app.

The article looked at how Johan Cruyff’s legacy lives on through his Foundation, and how funding from Arsenal along with Islington Council helped to transform a run-down pitch into a modern, well-lit facility that opened in 2008 and is still in constant use today.

“These sorts of safe spaces are really valuable for young people,” says Jack Ironside, Arsenal's senior manager for social inclusion, in the feature. “They have all sorts of physical benefits, and in terms of the mental health benefits for the wider community it is really important.”

The Sky Sports piece also includes video footage and hears from two of our Arsenal in the Community coaches, Jely Kikamba and Sanchez Ramgeet, who was recently the subject of the first in our new series of Success Story features.
