Charlie George visits Walking Football session

Arsenal in the Community Charlie George Walking Football

Our Prostate Cancer Walking Football participants were in for a treat when Arsenal legend Charlie George visited a session recently.

Charlie shared stories from his career, reminiscing about the unforgettable 1970/71 double-winning season and his iconic FA Cup-winning goal at Wembley against Liverpool. But perhaps more importantly, he also opened up about his own health journey to connect with those navigating their battles with prostate cancer.

After Charlie had answered all the questions fired at him, participants hit the pitch for their weekly walking football session with our Arsenal in the Community coaches. Charlie, who was voted ninth in our poll of top 50 greatest-ever players, watched on and also took a moment to sign the players’ board at The Arsenal Hub before he left.

Our Prostate Cancer Walking Football sessions are part of our Premier League and Professional Footballers Association funded Health programme and have been made possible by collaboration with UCLH and a grant from the UCLH Charity’s Cancer Fund. They are dedicated to fostering community, raising health awareness, and encouraging open dialogue. Each week, participants can engage in an inclusive one-hour walking football session followed by a 45-minute social support group.
