One of Europe's most consistent and reliable defenders, Laurent captained the Gunners on several occasions last season.
A valuable part of the Arsenal defence since joining in 2010, the centre back leads by example, and has a wealth of Premier League and Champions League experience to call upon.
As well as being composed and calm on the ball, Laurent reads the game superbly, and has a welcome habit of scoring important goals. He netted four times last season, including a late winner at home to Newcastle. His previous goals include the decisive strikes on the final day of the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons to secure Champions League qualification, as well as the equaliser against Hull City in the 2014 FA Cup final.
Fast, strong and dominant in the duels, the France international's profile has risen year-on-year after joining from Ligue 1 side Lorient in 2010.
Euro 2016 was his third major international tournament and he played every game of the tournament in his home country as Les Bleus reached the final. He scored his first international goal in the pre-tournament friendly at home to Scotland.
Prior to joining Lorient, Laurent had two seasons with Tours - where he was named in the Ligue 2 Team of the Season - having started his career at Guingamp in the French second tier.
