Dynamic full back Hector ended his third season of first-team football by lifting his second Emirates FA Cup at Wembley.
The Barcelona-born defender committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term deal in November 2016, and contributed to six goals during another season of progress in north London.
Such was Hector’s influence on the right-hand side that he claimed three assists in two games against Stoke City, and also scored the opener in our Premier League final-day win over Everton.
The rapid defender faced the toughest test of his fledgling career when he competed with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the right wing-back role in our new-look 3-4-3, but rose to the challenge and saw his performances rewarded with a start in our Emirates FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.
A full international, Hector won his first cap in his country’s pre-Euro 2016 friendly against Bosnia & Herzegovina before being called up to Spain’s squad for the tournament. It completed his progression from the Spain youth teams, where he had particularly impressed at under-19 level, being named in the Team of the Tournament at the Under-19 European Championship in 2013.
Having previously played for Barcelona’s youth teams, he joined Arsenal as a scholar in 2011 and impressed in the academy before making his first-team debut, aged 18, in the 2013 League Cup.
One of the fastest players in the game, he broke into the first-team squad the following season, playing 28 times – including the 2015 Emirates FA Cup final.
