Despite missing the first five months of last season through injury, athletic forward Danny returned with a bang – and made sure he finished the season on a high.

Making his first start since May 2016, the England international scored two goals and assisted another as we beat Southampton 5-0 to reach the fifth round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Goals against Liverpool and Manchester United – his third in four games against his former club – followed, but arguably his most important contribution came when he diverted Laurent Koscielny’s header into Alexis’ path, as the Chile forward scored an extra-time winner in our Emirates FA-Cup semi-final against Manchester City.

Danny had a similar impact when he returned the previous season, coming off the bench to head home a stoppage-time winner against Premier League leaders Leicester City.

A fast, skilful forward who can play through the middle or out wide, he joined us from United on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2014.

Having progressed through his boyhood club’s youth system, Danny won the 2012/13 Premier League title, as well as the League Cup twice and the FIFA World Club Cup.

A full international since 2011 – when he made his debut against Ghana, the country of his parents’ birth – he scored at Euro 2012 and featured at the 2014 World Cup. A regular goalscorer during qualification for Euro 2016, he missed out on the finals in France due to injury.

He had previously scored for every England youth team from under-17 to under-21 level.
