After returning from eight months out with a serious knee injury, Carl featured in the League Cup and Champions League, starting two games in each competition.
Making his first appearance for us since May 11, 2014, the hard-working defender wasted little time trying to pick up where he left off. His previous appearance, a 2-0 win at Norwich City, saw him score his first goal for us, and he nearly had his second when he headed inches over from close range against Reading.
Carl then started away to Ludogorets, helping us come from two goals behind to top our Champions League group, before also featuring against Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, making his final appearance of the season in our League Cup defeat against Southampton.
A boyhood Gunners fan, the defender joined the club from Charlton Athletic in 2011 and helped us lift the FA Cup in 2014 before signing up for his first loan spell with West Ham the following season.
The Harlow-born right back made the most of his initial opportunity in east London and extended his stay with the Hammers the following season before a cruciate ligament injury saw him return to north London. In total, he played 59 times for West Ham, and has also gained first-team experience on loan at Eastbourne Borough and Welling United.
A full England international since winning his first cap against Sweden in 2012, Carl has also been an under-21s regular and represented the Three Lions at the 2015 European Championship in the Czech Republic.
