Central defender Pablo impressed during his first full season with the Gunners, and was on the losing side just once in his first 12 appearances.

A steadying, calming influence at the heart of the defence, the left-footed Spaniard initially joined on a loan deal from Brazilian side Flamengo in January 2020, but made the move permanent six months later.

He scored his first goal for the club – a header from a corner – in his first appearance of the season, a 4-1 win over Rapid Vienna, in front of a small crowd at the Emirates.

A product of the Mallorca youth system, Pablo actually had three seasons at Manchester City, but never made an appearance for them and spent most of his time out on loan before signing for Flamengo. There he won the Brazilian league and South American Copa Libertadores before playing in the FIFA Club World Cup final in 2019.
