The launch took place at The Arsenal Hub, where Arsenal in the Community was delighted to welcome representatives from the Kevin Campbell Foundation alongside Arsenal legend and former team-mate of Kevin Campbell, Alan Smith.

Established to honour Kevin’s legacy both on and off the pitch, the award recognises coaches who demonstrate exceptional commitment, passion and professionalism throughout their time on the Coach Development Programme – values that Kevin embodied throughout his life and career.

The inaugural Kevin Campbell Award was presented last year to Lucy Tuke-Hastings, who was voted for by her peers in recognition of her dedication, enthusiasm and performance across the programme. Her approach reflected the standards and character that the award seeks to celebrate.

The Kevin Campbell Award will be presented annually to a coach on the programme who is voted by their peers as having shown the greatest dedication throughout the course, reinforcing the importance of leadership, support and excellence within coaching environments.

Speaking at the launch event, Alan Smith shared personal memories of his relationship with Kevin, reflecting on their time together as team-mates at Arsenal. He also recalled the famous night in 1994 when Kevin scored the winning goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the European Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final, a moment that remains etched in Arsenal’s history. Alan’s words offered coaches an insight into Kevin’s character, highlighting not only his achievements on the pitch but also his warmth, leadership and impact on those around him.

The recipient of the Kevin Campbell Award for the 2024/25 season will be announced and celebrated during the second half of the campaign, continuing to recognise those who carry Kevin’s values forward through their work in the community.
