Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri off to winning start

Ethan Nwaneri celebrates his winning goal for the Young Lions with his teammates

Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri started their Under-17 Euros campaign with a win as England triumphed over Croatia on Thursday evening.

Nwaneri bagged the only goal of the game in the eighth minute, tapping in from close range courtesy of a superb delivery from Tyler Dilling.

England then had a chance to extend their lead over Croatia just before the half-time whistle after Lewis-Skelly, dancing through defenders with ease, was brought down in the area. Chelsea's Michael Golding stepped up the spot but saw his penalty saved.

The Young Lions' goalscorer was substituted after the hour mark while Lewis-Skelly played the full 90 minutes of the match.

England will now face the Netherlands on Sunday evening before taking on Switzerland in the final game of Group D on Wednesday.
