SUMMARY

A stunning display from Jordan Nobbs powered Arsenal to victory over Notts County in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.

The England midfielder provided a goal and an assist in an all-action display at Meadow Park.

Arsenal broke the deadlock after just 10 minutes when Nobbs played a sublime long pass to enable Danielle van de Donk to slot into the net.

The lead was doubled 10 minutes after the interval, with Nobbs rounding off an impressive passing move to fire past Megan Walsh in the Notts County goal.

Vicky Losada almost added a third late on for the Gunners, but her long-range effort was just turned over the crossbar by Walsh, as the Gunners secured three impressive points.

SETTING THE SCENE

There were two changes from the side that beat Reading Women in the first round of the Continental Cup last weekend.

Sari van Veenendaal returned to the team at the expense of Emma Byrne, while Pedro Martinez Losa handed Kelly Smith a start ahead of Katie McCabe.

Vyan Sampson was named on the substitutes bench, which also featured Marta Corredera and Natalia.

Notts County boss Rick Passmoor had six former Gunners in his ranks. Dani Buet, Laura Bassett, Jo Potter, Angharad James and Ellen White all started, while Alice Hassall was among the substitutes.

FIRST HALF

Arsenal made a perfect start to the encounter, when an inch-perfect long pass from Nobbs set Van de Donk free, and the Dutch forward stroked the ball into the net after just 10 minutes.

The two nearly combined to equally-devastating effect just moments later, but a stretching Van de Donk couldn't turn home Nobbs’ ball across the face of goal.

The match was developing into a feisty encounter, as demonstrated by two bookings for each side in the space of 10 minutes.

With the half drawing to a close, Alex Scott put in an well-timed challenge to dispossess Ellen White with the Lady Pies forward bearing down on the Arsenal goal.

SECOND HALF

The Gunners started the second half just as they had started the first, finding the back of the net after 10 minutes of play.

This time a fine passing move across the pitch culminated in Nobbs firing past Walsh to double the lead.

Arsenal endured a close shave when Jo Potter’s free-kick was nodded back across goal by Jade Moore, but Notts County were unable to force the ball over the line.

Losada looked to put the game beyond doubt when she unleashed a fierce drive from range, but Lady Pies goalkeeper Walsh tipped the ball over the crossbar at the end of a successful afternoon for Losa’s side.
