When Royal Arsenal turned professional and changed their name to Woolwich Arsenal, Charles Ambler was their first second-fiddle keeper.

His only League appearance for the Gunners came in December 1895 and ended in a 5-1 away defeat to Newton Heath, now known as Manchester United.

That game was during his second spell at the Club. He had left in the summer of 1894 to join Luton Town but later returned to Arsenal.

His other appearance was an FA Cup Qualifier, though he did make 21 friendly appearances for Arsenal.
