Team News: Starting roles for Jorginho and Havertz

Kai Havertz arriving pre-Liverpool

Kai Havertz returns to the side in place of the injured Gabriel Jesus for our clash with top of the table Liverpool at Emirates Stadium.

The German is back in the lineup after coming on as a sub in Tuesday’s win over Nottingham Forest. The other change to that side that started at the City Ground sees Jorginho come into midfield, replacing Emile Smith Rowe.

It means that David Raya starts behind an unchanged back four of Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel and Alex Zinchenko. Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard are in midfield with Jorginho.

Havertz joins Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in the front three, while Mohamed Elneny – back from the Africa Cup of Nations – returns to take his place on the bench.

The visitors are still without the injured Mohamed Salah, while Darwin Nunez drops to the bench, replaced by Cody Gakpo. Trent Alexander-Arnold also starts after coming on as a sub in their midweek win over Chelsea.

Arsenal: Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Rice, Jorginho, Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, Havertz. Subs: Ramsdale, Kiwior, Walters, Cedric, Elneny, Smith Rowe, Trossard, Nelson, Nketiah.
