Stats: Our lengthy unbeaten run in London derbies

We round off 2023 with a pair of London derbies as we tackle West Ham United and Fulham, providing us with an opportunity to continue our impressive form in capital clashes.

Our last-gasp 1-0 success at Brentford last month extended our unbeaten run in London derbies to 17 matches, stretching back to May 2022 when we were beaten by Tottenham Hotspur.

That means we are currently on the third-longest undefeated run in Premier League history when London clubs go head-to-head, and should we avoid defeat against the Hammers and Cottagers in the coming days, we’ll be within touching distance of equalling Chelsea’s 20-game stretch which ended in 2006.

However, we are still a long way short of the competition’s longest-ever run avoiding defeat in London derbies, which was set by ourselves between November 2001 and August 2005 - incredibly comprising 35 games.

That near-four-year feat began after a surprise 4-2 defeat to Charlton Athletic at Highbury, and would stretch right through three whole seasons until the opening month of the 2005/06 campaign when we were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

When it comes to London derbies in the competition, we also come out on top of several other statistics.

No-one has won more derby days than our 152, and our points per game tally of 1.83 from 293 matches is also more than any other capital club.

We have also amassed more points from matches against the London teams than anyone else, and netted an impressive 508 goals - a tally that hopefully will creep further up before we ring in 2024.
