Remember these famous home wins against Liverpool?

Thierry Henry scores against Liverpool in 2004

Fixtures between ourselves and Liverpool always conjure up plenty of memories for supporters of both clubs, and we’ve picked out some of our most memorable home wins against the Reds for you to enjoy again.

As well as some emphatic wins and early and late drama, we have netted our fair share of extraordinary goals in these meetings, and we’ve picked through our back catalogue to jog your memory ahead of our upcoming clash with the Merseysiders.

Take a look back at these five crackers:

April 20, 1992
Arsenal 4-0 Liverpool

One of our biggest-ever wins over the Reds came towards the end of the 1991/92 campaign. When David Hillier drove home the opener after just six minutes, it looked like being a memorable afternoon for George Graham’s side, and 10 minutes later an excellent pass from Anders Limpar released Ian Wright who finished with aplomb.

The Swede would produce an incredible goal for our third of the afternoon when he chipped Mike Hooper from fully 40 yards out, and then a couple of minutes into the second half Wright beat the visiting keeper to the ball and rolled it home to seal a convincing victory.

Arsenal 2-0 Liverpool

We went into this fixture winless in 14 games against Liverpool, but we would end that run thanks to an incident-packed encounter at Highbury. Lauren marked his home debut with a goal after just six minutes when he drilled in after a corner wasn’t cleared, and before half-time Gary McAllister was dismissed after a tackle on Patrick Vieira.

The Frenchman would then get his marching orders for the second successive game after a challenge on Dietmar Hamann, who was also sent for an early bath two minutes later as the Reds were reduced to nine men. We took advantage of that a minute from time when Thierry Henry finished at the second attempt following a mazy dribble inside the box.

April 9, 2004
Arsenal 4-2 Liverpool

Henry was at his sublime best four years later, as he played a huge role in keeping our unbeaten season alive. Recent FA Cup and Champions League exits meant we were at a low ebb and Sammi Hyypia capitalised when he headed in after five minutes, but Henry equalised when he brilliantly controlled a Robert Pires pass to slot home.

Michael Owen’s goal threatened to end our invincibility 30 matches in, but Pires prodded in four minutes after the restart, and 60 seconds later Henry netted one of his greatest goals when he slalomed his way through the defence to put us in front. His hat-trick arrived on 78 minutes to ensure Arsene Wenger’s team remained on track for the title, and immortality.

April 4, 2015
Arsenal 4-1 Liverpool

A breathtaking eight-minute spell at the end of the first half set us up for a fine win against Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool. It began when Hector Bellerin curled into the bottom corner and then moments later Mesut Ozil bent a free-kick around the wall and beat Simon Mignolet.

Just before the break Alexis Sanchez powered home a shot from outside the box to hand us a healthy advantage, and while that was cut via a Jordan Henderson penalty, Emre Can was sent off before Olivier Giroud also ripped an effort from range into the net to create an emphatic scoreline.

Arsenal 3-2 Liverpool

We returned to the top of the Premier League courtesy of this win, and got off to a dream start when Gabriel Martinelli tucked home a Martin Odegaard pass after just 58 seconds. Darwin Nunez slid home an equaliser on 34 minutes, but in first-half stoppage time Bukayo Saka tapped home from close-range after a fine Martinelli assist.

However Liverpool fought back once more and Roberto Firmino yet again found the net against us eight minutes into the second half, but we weren’t to be denied and when Gabriel Jesus was adjudged to have been fouled by Thiago, Saka coolly slotted home a spot-kick to close out a five-goal thriller.

Take a look at more classic games against the Reds, including a top-of-the-table clash in 2013 and a Reiss Nelson winner.
