Frimpong completes move to Barnsley

Arsenal Football Club can confirm that midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has joined Championship side Barnsley in a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year old made a total of 16 first-team appearances for the Gunners and was a key part of the Club’s 2009 FA Youth Cup-winning team.

After making his first-team breakthrough at the start of the 2011/12 season, Frimpong had a loan spell at Wolves, during which he sustained a serious knee injury that stalled his progress.

After returning from a lengthy lay-off last term, Frimpong enjoyed further spells on loan with Charlton Athletic and Fulham, making six Premier League appearances for the Cottagers.

Born in Ghana, Emmanuel also achieved international recognition last season, winning his first full cap for Ghana in a World Cup qualifier against Sudan in March 2013.

The young midfielder will now team up with Danny Wilson’s side as they look to climb the Championship table.

Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Emmanuel for his contribution to the Club and wish him well in his future career.
