Williams - We fought as hard as we could

Fara Williams

Fara Williams says Arsenal Ladies fought as hard as they could during Monday's 2-0 defeat at Manchester City Ladies.

The Gunners suffered their first loss of the season, but left the Manchester Academy Arena with their heads held high after a battling display.

"That's a great motivation for us. We'll take a couple of days to rest and recover and we'll be back into it and focus on that"

Despite Jemma Rose’s red card in the 15th minute, Pedro Martinez Losa’s side fought until the final whistle and Williams says that speaks volumes for their team spirit.

“We've got great character in this team - we're not going to be out there with just 10 players and not fight,” she said. "We fought as hard as we could for as long as we could, but it was always going to come down to that; a great delivery and a great goal for them and then the penalty.

“We have Notts County at the weekend in the Women’s FA Cup, and that's a massive game. The final is at Wembley again this year and that's something every player wants to be a part of.

“That's a great motivation for us. We'll take a couple of days to rest and recover and we'll be back into it and focus on that.”
