Four Arsenal players were involved in England Under-20s' 1-0 friendly win over Portugal last night (Wednesday).

Defender John Halls, and midfielder Rohan Ricketts, who both recently made their Gunners first-team debuts, both started for England, as did David Noble, on loan at Watford this season.

Noble was substituted in the second half for another young Gunners midfielder out on loan - Steve Sidwell.

It was the introduction of Sidwell, currently on loan at Brentford, which led to the only goal of the game at Southampton's new St Mary's Stadium.

The industrious Andy Johnson did well to earn a corner from which Sidwell's powerful shot was blocked only as far as Joe Keenan who tucked the ball away.

It was no more than England deserved on the night.
