Arsenal Women’s U21s win the PGA Southern League

Arsenal Women U21s celebrate the league win

Arsenal Women's Under 21s are officially PGA Southern League champions, after defeating Sheffield United on Wednesday afternoon.

The 2-0 win over the Blades meant our young Gunners won the title with a game in hand, after close rivals Chelsea lost to Liverpool.

With the league in our sights, we kicked off confidently at Vauxhall Road and our early dominance soon led to a goal through Vivienne Lia. The 17-year-old winger, who earned her senior debut in this season's Conti Cup, was previously a member of our U16s side that went invincible in the league last season

Omotara Junaid secured the win and the title in the second half with a tap-in from a Sophie Harrison delivery.

After the full-time whistle, U21s head coach Elliot Allum said: "I’m really happy with the performance today and over the duration of the league. The team have got into a good rhythm, and we looked like a team that wanted to win today.

"We’ve showed a lot of character in this league, and it has allowed us to take new learnings with a young squad and we will continue to work hard to finish the league the next week.

"I’m proud of everything that everyone has put into this team, a huge congratulations to all the players and staff, it’s been another incredible season," he added.

Our young Gunners still have one final league game against Durham Women to play on April 24, before heading to the play-off final. In that match, we'll take on either Leicester City or Manchester United for a chance to be crowned the PGA U21 League winners on May 1.
