Wubben-Moy: "Games like this don't define us"

It was a tough result to take on Saturday afternoon as we fell to a 1-0 loss away to Tottenham Hotspur - our first north London derby defeat in the Women's Super League.

In a game brimming with missed chances and a lack of clinical play in the final third, Jonas Eidevall's side was unable to find a breakthrough despite registering over 30 shots.

Meanwhile, the hosts capitalised on a momentary lapse in concentration with players overcommitted in the Spurs half, and Martha Thomas was there to finish off a rapid counter-attacking move.

"I think [we were lacking] that final touch," said Lotte Wubben-Moy after the full-time whistle. "We know we have it in our locker. I think the most disappointing thing is the fact that we know that and that we didn't bring that today.

"[Spurs] had one chance and scored it, but we had about 50. We couldn't get one in the net.

"When you come up to big occasions like this, particularly off the back of such an exhilarating win last weekend against Chelsea, it's just disappointing. It's gonna hurt for a while to be honest, because it's the north London derby."

Wubben-Moy was particularly stung that our side couldn't secure a result for our supporters - a sold-out away end that was tirelessly supportive as we searched for a goal.

"Mostly, I'm just disappointed on behalf of the fans because we weren't good enough. We could hear them for the whole game, particularly in the dying minutes when we knew we needed a goal.

"They were there lifting us - if only we could have got the job done for them today because they deserved it."

Looking ahead to next year, Wubben-Moy believes that we can learn from this disappointing result to come back stronger in 2024.

"I think it’s important to take a look at this block as a whole. This one game doesn’t define us and we’ve done amazingly, particularly after a rough start. The way we’ve been building, the way we’ve been putting out performances is definitely something to be proud of.

"Again, it makes today so disappointing, particularly to end the block on such a sour note. For that to be the overriding feeling going into the Christmas break hurts a lot.

"With that being said, I think that can also be motivation that will drive us into 2024."
