Wienroither on being a Down Syndrome ambassador

Arsenal for everyone is a club value that means a lot to Laura Wienroither. 

As we recognise World Down Syndrome Day and celebrate the ten-year anniversary of our collaboration with North London United, Laura tells us all about becoming an ambassador for Down Syndrome Austria and why this date is so important to her.

"Supporting the Down Syndrome community is just a matter of heart for me," said Wienroither during an Arsenal in the Community event. 

"I just want to create awareness for the Down Syndrome community. I think they should have rights in society and I think they're a really great group of people and they just bring joy to everyone. I think that's what we need these days in the world, and that's why I'm really happy to get involved as well as I can.

"I did get in contact with Down Syndrome Austria in the middle of last year and then I became an ambassador at the end of the year. It's a really, really nice thing for me to do because it gives me joy and I hope I can give them a bit of joy too, or like what I said before, to help create a bit of awareness in Austria for the Down Syndrome community. It's something really, really important to me and I think and hope in the future that it's really supported by everyone around them." 

Following her community work in Austria, Laura was keen to learn more about our collaboration with North London United, a community-based sports project dedicated to young individuals aged between five and 30 with Down Syndrome. 

"Arsenal for Everyone means just bringing people together. I think that’s what football is all about," she added. "It’s what our club is about and I think that's what we as players also stand for. That’s why it is really, really nice for me to just be here and bringing people together like making football or sports in general accessible for everyone. That's why, I'm really, really happy to help where I can."
