U21s preview: Arsenal v Middlesbrough

zane

Premier League 2 football makes its return to Meadow Park in 2024, with an eagerly anticipated clash against Middlesbrough scheduled for Friday night at 7pm.

Mehmet Ali’s young Gunners currently sit in fourth spot in the division with 20 points, and a victory would propel us into third place and bring us level on points with West Ham United in second spot.

In our last outing of 2023, we showcased our resilience by mounting a comeback against Sunderland, ultimately securing the win with a second-half brace from the prolific Khayon Edwards.

Boro broken down

Turning our attention to Middlesbrough, their most recent game against Reading saw them let go of a 2-0 lead as they drew 2-2 with the Royals. In the Premier League 2 standings, they trail us by just two points, having accumulated 18 from nine games.

A key player to watch out for is forward Calum Kavanagh, their leading scorer with five goals in seven league games. Kavanagh's goal-scoring prowess extends beyond the league, with an additional seven goals in four Premier League Cup games.

How to follow

You can attend the game in person, and entry is free at Meadow Park for all our Premier League 2 fixtures.

However, if you cannot attend, we will be providing updates throughout the game on our academy Twitter page, and there will be a match report published on Arsenal.com after the final whistle.

We will also be sharing post-match interviews with Mehmet Ali and one of his young Gunners, as well as highlights of all the action.
