The idea behind it was to commemorate our tour games in Japan later this month with a series of animations of some of the biggest stars in the Arsenal squad.
We worked with artist Morgan Lewis, who spent between 12 and 15 hours on each design - each featuring a different type of manga. Her final creation is of Arsène Wenger, and the task facing her was encapsulate his character in her design.
“The brief was to reflect his job in some way, and either to show him as ‘The Professor’ as he's sometimes dubbed by the media or as a Samurai warrior,” she says. “To me, Samurai represent discipline, wisdom, and authority - all vital in managing a football team and qualities I associate with Arsène Wenger in particular - so I tried to show those qualities in the character's pose and expression.”
