Wenger - My players fight for each other

Arsene Wenger has praised his team’s togetherness and fighting spirit during a busy festive period.

Arsenal ended 2013 at the summit of the Premier League after three wins and a draw over Christmas and New Year, and beat Tottenham 2-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday

The Gunners now have nine days until their next game against Aston Villa and Wenger says they deserve a break.

"We've played eight games at home and conceded one goal. That shows that defensively we are sound"

"We had a very difficult schedule," he told Arsenal Player. "We handled it very well, I would like to pay tribute to the players, they kept their focus during this period. You never felt that they wanted a breather, they will get one now but they deserve it.

"We've played eight games at home and conceded one goal. That shows that defensively we are sound.

"But overall above even our defensive tactical discipline, you feel the spirit is there to fight together. You can put any player anywhere, they just fight for each other and that is just the greatest ingredient of positiveness we have in the squad."

Arsenal produced arguably one of their best performances of the season to beat Tottenham and Wenger was pleased with his side's display.

"I feel we played well on both sides," he said. "On the defensive and the offensive front we played at a good pace, always looked dangerous and overall it was a very convincing win."
