Wilshere on a point, his goal, Welbeck

14/15: Arsenal 2-2 Manchester City - Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere spoke to the media after Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Manchester City. Here is a transcript of what he said:

on the performance…
I think it was a fair result. We started well in the first half and we could have got a few goals, but they’re a great team and they came back into it. All Aguero needs is one chance and he took it. In the second half I thought we had done enough to win it but in the end we looked tired and they could have won it, so we will take a point.

on proving a point…
I am just trying to do what I do week in, week out, working hard in training and trying to take that on to the pitch. I am getting fitter and fitter in each game and I felt good today and I am looking forward to another tough game on Tuesday. I had a good couple of games with the national team and I am getting fitter, and recovered well after that [second England] game. I had a few days of training and we all felt fresh today, and you saw that in the first half - we started brightly and unfortunately we didn’t win but on another day we would have.

on his goal…
It was a tight angle and I saw Joe [Hart] go down so that was all I could do, so I am happy with that.

on a possible handball…
No I don’t think [it was a penalty]. I went for the ball and it just bounced up - if it hit my hand, it hit my hand. It is tough for the referees. In another game he might have given it, but he didn’t.

on Debuchy’s injury…
He looked in a bit of pain. I know all about ankle injuries and they are not nice, so hopefully he will be alright.

on a point against the champions…
I think again we showed great character, especially from being one down to such a top team - they are the champions for a reason and they showed that. But once we were 2-1 up we would liked to have won the game, but we gave away a cheap goal from a set piece and we will have to look at that. But in the end they had a few chances and could have won it, so I am happy with a point.

on Welbeck’s debut…
He was fantastic. Unfortunately in the first half his little chip didn’t go in but he was fantastic, and he showed great work rate. He was closing the centre backs down, he was chasing back and he was quality on the ball as well so I am sure there is more to come from him.
