Olivier Giroud dedicated his goal against West Ham United to the victims of the Hillsborough disaster.
Emirates Stadium paused for a minute’s silence to mark the 25th anniversary of the tragedy before Arsenal’s 3-1 win.
And the Frenchman wanted to pay his own special tribute.
"I heard everybody talking about it before and I didn’t exactly know the story until a few days ago but I just wanted pay homage to them,” said Giroud.
"It’s something which made me feel consoling and I wanted to dedicate my goal to the families involved."Copyright 2014 The Arsenal Football Club plc. Permission to use quotations from this article is granted subject to appropriate credit being given to www.arsenal.com as the source 15 Apr 2014
