'We got away with the correct result'

Steve Gatting

Steve Gatting spoke to Arsenal.com after Sanchez Watt's late winner secured a 3-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at New Bucks Head on Monday night.

on a satisfying evening…
In the end we got away with the correct result. It was a good performance. I think we passed the ball very well in the first half and created lots of chances. Once we went down to 10 men, it was difficult but the boys showed a lot of character at the end to force a third goal.

on resoluteness shown with 10 men…
It's difficult with 10 men. I thought defensively, as a group, we were intelligent. We got behind the ball well and the only danger was the deep crosses and second balls. When we had the ball, I thought we did well to keep possession and at the end we were strong enough to get players forward and create chances.

on looking the more likely with 10 men…
I think this team has a lot of attacking players. I don't think we're the best [at] defending but we will score goals. We have players who were prepared to get forward. We kept the ball well with 10 men and in the end we created a few good chances to score.

on another brace for Akpom…
Chuba's scored a good chunk of goals. I thought his second one was an excellent team goal. We passed it well with good interplay through midfield. The through ball was good and the finish was very good.

on Zelalem and Olsson in central midfield…
We know what they are good at. They are good at passing the ball and they do that well. It wasn't the easiest pitch to pass the ball on. They worked hard. Both of them need to work hard at their defensive game but I was very pleased again with them. They passed the ball well for us.

on if the red card was justified…
I've not seen the replay. I spoke to Danny and he said that he didn't touch Samir and that Samir tripped. The referee didn't see it that way. Perhaps we got caught a little bit square and it was a last-ditch effort to stop a shot and the referee saw it as a sending off.

on a platform for upcoming home games…
It was our last away game and it was nice to end up with a win. I think it was the first [away] win of the season in the elite group stage. We have three home games now and it's something to build on.
