‘Our drive is behind end-of-season form’

12/13: Arsenal 4-1 Wigan Athletic - Theo Walcott

Theo Walcott believes Arsenal’s strong end-of-season form is down to the players’ sheer desire to qualify for the Champions League.

The Gunners have taken 23 points from their last nine games and go into the final match of the season away at Newcastle United knowing that victory will ensure a place in the top four.

Walcott scored a hat-trick in a 7-3 win when the sides met earlier in the campaign and he says the team will be full of confidence going into the game at St James’ Park.

"We just have great experience in knowing what to do when the time is right"

“All the games are very important now but we just want to get the result,” he said. “We want to keep our form going. We haven’t lost now in a long time. I have lost count to be fair.

“That’s a great positive and we just have to keep it going now. It is a tough game and we cannot underestimate Newcastle. I know it was a totally crazy game here when we played them last but we are ready for it.

“We just have great experience in knowing what to do when the time is right. It’s funny. It happens every year. We tend to finish very strong. I think it is just because the players want it so much.

“We just need to show that in the mid-season and at the start and we could hopefully be even higher than we are and not have this situation we are in.”
