'At this level, you must be clinical'

Shelley Kerr spoke to Arsenal.com after Arsenal Ladies were beaten 2-0 by VfL Wolfsburg in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at Meadow Park:

on a frustrating afternoon…
We didn't play well today. In saying that, I thought Wolfsburg were really physically strong. We had three or four chances and on another day, they might go in for you, which changes the game a little bit. The girls are disappointed because they know they can play better.

on being unlucky in front of goal…
Wolfsburg are a really organised team and they did well. What they did better than us was take their chances. At this level, you have to do that.

on Wolfsburg's goals coming on the back of good spells for Arsenal…
That's football. You know that these things happen. What we have to do now is be positive going into the away leg. The positives we'll take is that we created so many chances today. We had four or five really good chances and we hit the bar, so we can create chances. If we get a goal away from home then it's game on.

on scoring four in Potsdam and using that as belief…
Absolutely. What we've said as a team is that it's only half-time in the game. We know it's going to be difficult, because we've conceded two goals at home, but if any team can come back and score goals away from home, we can.

on the need to score early in Germany…
I think the key will be to be patient. There's no point in rushing things. What we have to do is look at our gameplan. We tried to play too much football [today] and in the end you don't get the result that you're looking for. We need to be a little bit smarter and we need to use our intelligence and the talent that we have. I'm still extremely positive. I'm a positive person and I think we need to do that as a group of players and as a squad going into the away leg.
