Jonas looks ahead to Conti Cup derby

Jonas pre Spurs

Jonas Eidevall has shared his thoughts ahead of Wednesday’s north London derby in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup.

We’ll be looking to continue our brilliant run of form, which recently saw us win 4-1 against Chelsea at Emirates Stadium to go joint top of the Barclays Women’s Super League.

“We had a great result on Sunday and we take a lot of positivity and belief from that,” Jonas said. “At the same time, the Conti Cup was a real high for us last season so we want to win the competition again this season.

“Any match against Tottenham is a big one for us as Arsenal and we want to produce a good performance and win the game. Our supporters were unbelievable at the Emirates on Sunday and we know they bring a good noise at Meadow Park too, so we’re looking forward to seeing them tomorrow night.”

Asked for the latest update on the fitness of Kim Little, Jonas said: “Kim has had a scan and that has confirmed that it’s not a serious issue. We’ll see how she progresses this week and make a decision.

“Aside from that, the squad is in good shape. After a massive high like the game on Sunday, I’ve been impressed by the way they have come back with good focus and ready to compete in these two big games.”

Jonas was also asked whether he will consider rotating the squad more for Wednesday’s game, with another north London derby coming up in the WSL on the weekend.

“This is another competition and we’ve said before that we need the whole squad to compete throughout the season,” he explained. “We have two big games against Tottenham in the space of four days and of course everybody wants to be involved in that.

“What has impressed me this season is the way the whole squad has trained to a high level week in, week out, even if there have been times when players have been on the bench. That is the best thing for any coach.”
