Interview

Eidevall's assessment of north London derby loss

Jonas Eidevall believes that today's defeat to Tottenham Hotspur was down to 'small details' and a lack of efficiency in the final third.

Speaking pitchside after the full-time whistle, our head coach gave his take on the performance, missed chances and how our side will reset in the new year.

Here's everything he had to say:

on what was missing today…

Goals for us. We created a lot of goalscoring opportunities. But we lacked efficiency today, unfortunately.

on a series of missed chances in front of goal…

That's why it's also important to be efficient and to take advantage of the goalscoring opportunities that you create but unfortunately, we did not today and we paid a price for that.

on how to ensure this result doesn’t define our season…

Well, I'm a firm believer in looking at the performances, and performances are always gonna be linked to the results and today's performance, it's quite a strong performance and we created a lot of goalscoring opportunities, and we conceded few. We were just lacking efficiency in both aspects, both attacking and defending. We need to take the positive lessons from our performance but of course, we need to improve our efficiency.

Of course, we're also gutted that we lost this game today. We tried our very, very best to try and get another result for it. With that performance, if we would replay it, I'm also very confident that we would win. So sometimes, you want to change everything in football just because of the result. That's not the story here. There are small details that were the difference for us turning this performance into a win instead.

on a sold-out away end cheering us on…

We wish them all the best because they give us all the best support and that's hurtful. But in football, we win football matches together and we lose football matches together as well. I'm happy with the way they supported the team all the way throughout the game and that gave us the best possible chance to try and get a goal and to turn it around.

Unfortunately, it wasn't our day but they never gave up, the players never gave up either and we're never gonna give up. We're going to go again.

on resetting over the Christmas break…

We need to keep improving the way that we're playing. To keep pushing for new levels in the way we play. I think that's gonna be the consistent thing. We go for a break now and after that, we go to Portugal to start up pre-season training and getting ready. We need to start the 14th of January in the FA Cup.
