Eidevall on historic Emirates Stadium sell-out

Big screen at Emirates Stadium declaring a new Barclays WSL record

Tomorrow's WSL clash with Manchester United at Emirates Stadium will once again be a sold-out affair, with over 60,000 tickets sold.

Jonas Eidevall has reflected on what a historic sell-out - our first in the Barclays Women's Super League - means for the club and the wider trajectory of the women's game.

"The whole club should take massive credit for that," our head coach said at his pre-match press conference. "That would not have been possible without all the hard work that many people do across the whole club. It goes for the staff at the grounds to prepare them and make them for such an enjoyable experience for everyone that comes, as well as of course our fans. Massive credit to them.

"It’s another milestone but I feel these milestones now happen over shorter periods of time and that’s amazing because that’s how progression and a snowball acts when it starts rolling."

"We still have two more games to play at the Emirates this season so that’s incredible. It just shows the growth of the game and for us in particular."

Since Eidevall joined as manager back in 2021, our women's side has seen Emirates Stadium attendance transform from 10,000 against Chelsea to the first-ever sell-out in the UEFA Women's Champions League semi-final against Wolfsburg.

"You can just compare our average attendance figures from two years ago to last season to this season and you see the growth of that. Anyone running anything that would be developing or growing would understand where that direction is going right now. I don’t think we’ve fully seen that potential yet but we’re definitely on the right track.

"We have two homes, we have the stadium and we have Meadow Park. Our fans are incredible at both of these venues to create an amazing atmosphere for us and I really trust the club to guide the progression on where we’re going to play our games.

"They have a clear plan on how to want to invest and accelerate the growth of women’s football and so far we can see that’s been very successful and I have complete trust in the next steps."
