Pre-Match Report

U-23s: Southampton v Arsenal - Preview

THE STORY SO FAR

Arsenal Under-23s go into Monday night's game at Southampton’s Staplewood training ground having won four of their last five matches.

The Gunners won 2-1 against Derby County at London Colney in their first game after the Christmas break, with Eddie Nketiah scoring the winning goal after Savvas Mourgos' opener.

Steve Gatting’s side are currently fifth in Premier League 2, just three points behind third-placed Chelsea.

THE OPPOSITION

The Saints are currently seventh in the table, having dropped down after a five-game losing streak.

They had enjoyed a strong start to the season, but lost 4-2 to Reading in their last Premier League 2 outing.

When they visited Meadow Park earlier this season, the two sides played out a 0-0 draw.

ONE TO WATCH

New signing Cohen Bramall could be set to make his first appearance in Arsenal colours.

Bramall joined the club from Hednesford Town earlier this month after a successful trial with the club.

Upon signing for the club, the 20-year-old left back was noted by Arsene Wenger for his athleticism and pace.

LAST TIME WE MET

Our last meeting with the Saints was a 0-0 draw at Meadow Park in October.

Carl Jenkinson made his return form injury, playing just over 60 minutes as we kept a clean sheet.

Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy was repeatedly tested by Chris Willock, Stephy Mavididi and Ismael Bennacer, but was not to be beaten.
