U21s: Arsenal v Brighton - Preview

Steve Gatting

Steve Gatting is confident Arsenal Under-21s have the character to break their losing streak.

The young Gunners slipped to their fourth consecutive defeat at West Bromwich Albion last Tuesday, and have not won since their 4-1 victory against Stoke City at the start of April.

However, Gatting believes his side has the character to respond well against Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday.

"You get into a losing streak, goals seem to fly in quickly when there’s no trouble and it’s hard to break it"

“It was a physical game and we didn’t compete enough,” the manager told Arsenal.com. “We didn’t win enough second balls and when we were on the ball, we didn’t pass well enough.

“It’s our job to make the boys bounce back. You get into a losing streak, goals seem to fly in quickly when there’s no trouble and it’s hard to break it.

“I’ve been in the same situation myself and it’s hard to get out of that habit and rediscover the belief that you’re going to win. We’ve just got to keep drumming that into the boys, to do the correct things and overcome it.

“At the moment Brighton will be a tough game because of the boys’ state of mind. We’ll go out there, prepare as we should do and hopefully we can correct the poor things that happened at West Brom.”
