Serge Gnabry Profile

Born July 14, 1995
Stuttgart, Germany
Position: Striker
Squad Number: 44
Previous Club(s) VfB Stuttgart
Arsenal Debut September 26, 2012

A skilful forward, Serge continued his encouraging progress during his second year in north London – netting seven times in all competitions.

Having established himself as a key player in Arsenal’s under-21 side, the ex-VfB Stuttgart youngster was handed his first-team debut as a substitute in the 6-1 win over Coventry City in the 2012/13 Capital One Cup. He proceeded to make his Premier League bow in a 1-0 league defeat at Norwich City in October 2012, and also came off the bench in a Champions League tie against Schalke at Emirates Stadium four days later.

Serge, who is equally at home anywhere across the front line, made his full debut in the memorable 7-5 League Cup victory away at Reading before scoring vital goals against CSKA Moscow and Chelsea – the former in front of a big crowd at Emirates Stadium – as Arsenal progressed to the semi-finals of the NextGen Series.

Having signed his first professional contract with the Club in the summer of 2012, the following year he was part of the first team’s tour to Asia, and featured heavily out in Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan. He also played in the Emirates Cup against Napoli.

Serge has also made an impact at international level, featuring frequently for the German youth sides from under-16 to under-19 levels. He scored two fine goals for the under-18s against France in March 2013, and has been tipped for a under-21 call-up if his rapid progress at Arsenal continues apace.

My Year

  • 2013/14

September

It was a breakthrough month for Serge as the forward scored his first senior goal for the Gunners in the 2-1 win over Swansea. The German also played 120 minutes in the Capital One Cup game against West Brom. "Scoring my first Arsenal goal was something amazing," Serge told Arsenal Player after the Swansea game. "Everybody dreams of scoring for the first team and I've done that today so I'm very happy."

October

It was another memorable month for Serge after he signed a new long-term contract with the Club. The young winger made just two appearances as a substitute in October but was delighted to commit his future to the Gunners. "Arsenal is a great football club and I’m so happy to be here and sign a new contract. For me, now it’s all about working hard and developing my game. "I’ve had some good opportunities recently in the first team, which has given me extra confidence, and this will only improve my game. I’m looking forward to giving my best for this club in the years to come."

November

Serge was restricted to just one appearance in November which came in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.

December

Serge's only appearance in December came as a substitute against Manchester City. "Serge has a lot of qualities to be a good player and can help the first team to win," Laurent Koscielny said. "He has a lot of quality; he is quick, he has a lot of technique and he is so young so he has time. He needs to work hard in training to be with the first team but it is good for him to know the pressure of the game."

January

Serge produced an eye-catching performance in the win over Tottenham in the FA Cup and was rewarded with further starts against Aston Villa, Fulham, Coventry and Southampton. "He [Gnabry] always takes his opportunity to make a great impact and that's what we need," Per Mertesacker told Arsenal Player. "I'm very pleased for him and for our team that his contribution to us, at his age, is absolutely amazing this season. He came in against Swansea, did a good job and scored the first goal. "When I see him every day in training you can see that someone is coming but we try to keep him calm and he takes it really seriously."

February

Serge made just one appearance from the bench in February. The German youngster played the final 17 minutes of the win against Sunderland. Speaking about Mesut Ozil before that game, Serge said: "I've picked up a lot of things from him. He's a brilliant offensive player. I'm trying to watch his game and trying to adapt to what he does in a game. He's just a brilliant player and it's nice to have him in and around the team."

March

Serge was restricted to just one appearance in March, which came as a late substitute in the draw against Bayern Munich.
