Player of the month

The contenders for our women's Player of the Month award

Voting is now open to decide the women's Player of the Month for April.

It was an unbeaten month for our Gunners in the Barclays Women's Super League but who was our standout performer? We've narrowed it down to four candidates:

Steph Catley

Steph Catley

As one of our most reliable performers for four seasons now, Steph Catley has particularly stood out this April.

Alongside the consistently high standards we've come to expect from the Australian, Catley has also shown her versatility by stepping into the centre-back role twice this month to cover for squad injuries.

An electric interception at the halfway line and subsequent dribble saw her set up Alessia Russo's strike against Leicester City at Emirates Stadium, and Catley was nearly got on the scoresheet herself against Bristol - her dangerous cross ultimately deflected into the Robins' net.

Emily Fox

Emily Fox

Since arriving in north London just three months ago, Emily Fox has had the kind of immediate impact that some new signings only dream of.

The American international's stamina, technical skill and combination play firmly established her in the starting XI from the outset.

Her performances this month have been no exception, picking up a Player of the Match award for her role in the victory over Leicester City at Emirates Stadium.

Beth Mead

Beth Mead celebrates a goal at Emirates Stadium

With four goals in three appearances, Beth Mead's impact has been undeniable.

Our winger from Whitby bagged back-to-back braces against Bristol City and Leicester City, with her opening goal against the Foxes being the pick of the bunch. Picking up the ball from Leah Williamson, Mead combined beautifully with Victoria Pelova and Caitlin Foord at the edge of the area before ultimately finishing the move with a decisive strike.

In her comeback season after suffering a traumatic ACL injury, our number 9 has added to her astonishing home form: scoring 26 times in her last 23 home games in the WSL.

Alessia Russo

Alessia Russo at Emirates Stadium

Alessia Russo scored in all three of our fixtures in April, adding a total of four goals to her season's tally.

Our number 23 was in fine form against Bristol City, opening her account with a beautifully struck effort on the edge of the area before placing her second goal into the bottom corner with pinpoint accuracy.

With a combined goal and assist total of 18, Russo has wasted no time at all making a name for herself in north London.

Voting has now closed.
