For the Liverpool v Arsenal match at Anfield this season, JGs Presenting Partner Indesit, ran a fantastic competition giving our Junior Gunners the chance to win the ultimate family away trip.
The prize up for grabs was a family trip for four - train travel to Liverpool, a night in a hotel in the city centre, and four tickets to be at the Liverpool v Arsenal match!
JG Connor's winning entry involved an Arsenal poem, some fantastic drawings of his favourite players and even a collage of some iconic Arsenal pictures.
Here's Connor's (age 13) report on his weekend and the match:
It was the day I’d been dreaming of… After much celebration of the competition success and 14 days of waiting, it was finally the Liverpool trip. An early start in the morning (5:15am) but there was a big incentive to get me out of my bed early!
Travel began with a journey up to London Bridge and a quick tube to London Euston. At Euston, I grabbed my morning coffee and paper and jumped on the Virgin Train up to the mighty city of Liverpool!
After reading a few match previews, a cheeky Top Gear episode and a nap, our destination was reached. After checking in at the Hotel and a nice swim. My family and I caught a short bus up to Anfield!
It might be an old traditional ground but the atmosphere was electric. After some pre-match chanting in the turnstiles, kick off was approaching and the tingling nerves in my body began.
It was such a privilege to be in the presence of the famous ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ song under the lights at Anfield. It was a struggle to out sing the other 50,000 fans but as traditional Arsenal Away fans, we did not stop chanting until the final minute, no matter what the score was.
After slow Arsenal start Liverpool gained a one-nil lead via Roberto Firmino right in front of our fans. It is a sinking feeling when you see the goal coming and the loud celebrations of the home crowd always a bitter pill to swallow.
HT: Liverpool 2 Arsenal 0
Back in the second half, our main man Alexis Sanchez was on finally there was a response from Arsenal. Soon, a Giroud header was just nicked onto the bar by Mignolet. Next, A beautiful ball put through by our substitute Alexis Sanchez to Welbeck who did a cheeky dink over the keeper in to the back of the net. 2-1, game on!
The crowd went wild. Our fans were roaring, hope was back and we stunned Anfield into silence! Arsenal kept pushing and pushing for an equaliser but time was running out…
In stoppage time, the break was on for Arsenal , our last chance , a shot hit a Liverpool defender – possession switched to Liverpool, they broke much better than us and Wijinaldum slotted the ball home. 3-1, what a killer.
On the upside, the atmosphere was fantastic, the fans never lost hope and it was a great evening under the lights.
We're glad to hear you enjoyed the experience!
