Sporting CP triumphed 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the Europa League Round of 16 on Thursday.
Granit Xhaka seemed to have us heading for the next round when he netted in the first half, but an outrageous 45-yard lob from Pedro Goncalves brought Sporting level on the night and on aggregate.
We came close to a winner several times in extra-time, but in the end penalties were needed to find a winner. Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard all found the net from 12 yards, but Gabriel Martinelli saw his effort saved, and it proved decisive.
